Left: Textile materials with open-ended fibers (“pile fabrics”) change their appearance upon tactile interaction. Center: Our appearance model, driven by real-world measurements, recreates this interactive behavior. Right: By changing the scattering parameters of the physically-based reflectance model, the visual appearance of the fabric can be altered drastically.

Our pipeline transforms gonioreflectometric measurements into an editable appearance model based on anisotropic microflake distributions.
